Here you will find details of organisations within the church and of affiliated organisations.
We are a traditional four-section robed choir of ten to sixteen who support the regular services of the church. We normally sing as a full choir at Parish Communion on three Sundays of the month, at festivals and for weddings and funerals and other special occasions. The choir also sings Evensong twice a month.
Whilst for most of the year our musical programme consists of hymns, psalms, communion settings and a wide variety of anthems appropriate to particular days, we undertake substantial programmes, for example, for Advent, Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.
Our choice of special music is wide in style and period, from mediaeval to the present day, accompanied by the main organ in the nave or unaccompanied when appropriate. Evensong is sung with the chamber organ in the chancel.
Come and join us:
Some of our members are highly experienced but by no means all, and anyone of whatever voice who enjoys singing is welcome to join us. There is no audition; nor do you need to be able to read music. We do expect however that members attend practices consistently so that we can maintain our high standard. Our policy is to aim high but only to sing music which is within our capacity.
Our normal routine practice is held in church each Thursday for an hour or a little more but we do hold optional extra practices in advance of special occasions.
So, we’d love to hear from you if you’re interested!
"The kiss of the sun for pardon, the song of the birds for mirth".
We have a small team who help to maintain the churchyard. But we could do with more!
It's quite a large space and the location of the graves and memorials gave no consideration to those who would be mowing the areas in between. So it's challenging, but also rewarding. There is nothing more-enjoyable than working in the sunshine, pausing to converse with those who are visiting or just passing through.
To misquote Dorothy Gurney, "You are nearer to God in a churchyard, than anywhere else in church".
Edington Parish Hall is owned by the Diocese of Saisbury. It was built in 1885 for use as the Sunday School for Edington Priory Church. Today it is run by a management committee consisting of villagers and members of the church congregation.
